Work has begun on the base for the Falcon dish antenna. The base starts with a cylinder that is 48″ diameter, 11″ high. The lower part of the base (shown below) is being built from 3/4″ exterior grade plywood and 2×6 lumber. It will be skinned with thin plywood and aluminum flashing.

Here are two renders and two wireframe elevations of the full-size Falcon dish antenna. I’ll be building this as a mini-project over the next few months.

Mini-project: Radar dish assembly

February 16, 2007 in Dish, Exterior

The first of two mini-projects will be the radar dish assembly. I already have a 10.5′ aluminum c-band satellite dish as a framework for the radar dish, and can construct the base and frame from welded steel and plywood.

Exterior project components

February 15, 2007 in Armaments, Dish, Exterior, Foundation, Landing Gear, Lighting (exterior), Outer Hull and Plating, Paint, Ramp, Rough In, Structural Steel Framing, Weatherproofing

I’ve identified these exterior project components:

  • Armaments
  • Dish antenna
  • Foundation
  • Landing gear
  • Structural steel framing
  • Ramp
  • Lighting
  • Outer hull and plating
  • Weatherproofing
  • Paint and weathering
  • Rough-in

Each of these will likely have several sub-projects associated with them.
